A parliamentary report revealed today, Sunday, that nearly two-thirds of women in the British army have experienced “bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination” during their careers.
The report, prepared by the British Parliament’s Defense Subcommittee, concluded that the army “failed to protect female soldiers.”
The report was mainly concerned with the treatment of women in the British army, and included testimonies of 4,106 former female soldiers, and others who are still serving.
The committee stated that 62 percent of the former and current female soldiers had exposed or witnessed “unacceptable behavior” during the service.
gang rape
The report included examples of gang rape of female soldiers, sexual relations in order to obtain promotions, and mistreatment of female soldiers on warships.
Some women reported being bullied after refusing sexual advances, while others reported that their friends had experienced group sexual assaults, but were too afraid to report it.
