Scientists from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, have been able to kill 95-100 percent of breast cancer cells.
And the journal Science Translational Medicine reports that university scientists have created the drug ErSO, which kills all primary tumors and metastases. Laboratory tests on mice have shown that they tolerate even large doses of this drug. And that the number of cancer cells reduced on average a few days after the start of the test by 99 percent.
The unique feature of this drug is that it does not have any side effects, and the effectiveness of ErSO depends on the estrogen receptors present in the majority of breast tumors. When docked with the drug, it activates the a-UPR cellular pathway, which prepares infected cells for rapid growth and protects them from stress.
“Even when a few cancer cells survive the drug, allowing tumors to grow within a few months, these tumors are still very sensitive to the drug and can be eliminated with the drug again,” says biochemist David Shapiro.
The researchers plan to test the drug’s effectiveness in humans and whether it is effective against other types of cancer.
