Lawyer Muhammad Al-Afif, the attorney of the accused, Bassem Awadallah, announced on Monday that “the decision of the State Security Court in the (sedition) case will be appealed to refer the prison decision to the Court of Cassation.”

This came, following the decision of the State Security Court to criminalize the defendants in the “sedition” case, Bassem Awadallah, Sharif Hassan bin Zaid, with the first and second charges against them, with 15 years imprisonment with temporary labor, and the conviction of the accused bin Zaid for drug use, imprisonment for one year and a fine of one thousand dinars with fees.

The defendants were charged with the felony of carrying out acts that endanger the safety and security of society, and causing sedition jointly, in violation of the provisions of Articles 2 and 7 on (i) of the Prevention of Terrorism Law No. 55 of 2006 and its amendments, and in the light of Article 7 of the same law, and possession of a narcotic substance with the intent of its abuse and abuse. Narcotics, contrary to the provisions of Article 9 / A of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 23 of 2016, which is assigned to the second defendant.
