The Jordanian-Spanish duo Abdullah Shelbaya and Rincon qualified for the Wimbledon Junior Doubles final, by defeating Banerjee and Isomura 4-6 2-6.
Shelbaya is considered the first Arab to qualify for the Junior Grand Final since the Algerian then-Moroccan Lamine Wahhab in the Wimbledon singles 2001, when he excelled in the semi-finals against Nadal.
The Secretary-General of the Olympic Committee, Nasser Al-Majali, congratulated this achievement, considering Shelbaya’s qualification as a wonderful and historic achievement for Jordanian tennis.
Al-Majali added, “Shelbaia is steadily moving towards brilliance in tennis, with the wonderful results he has achieved in the recent period, which made him one of the best players in the academy of the Spanish international player Rafael Nadal.”
