Dr. Taghreed Al Mahmeed, a surgeon and consultant at Al Zahra Hospital in Dubai, said that there is a completely new technology to accurately identify breast cancer tumors, by placing a small piece of cancerous tissue in the breast that can be considered as a radar that determines the exact location of the tumor when it is removed.
Al-Mahmeed added that the piece, which is the size of a grain of rice, is implanted under the skin through a small needle, and it helps determine the location of the growth of the cancerous tumor with greater accuracy. Thanks to its location deep under the skin, this means that the surgery removes only what is necessary from the site.
Not only is this new technology more effective in enabling complete removal of the cancerous tumor, but it is also simple, and the accurate results it provides reduce the need for a second surgery, and any associated delay that affects the follow-up of life-saving treatment, such as treatment radiological;
Another advantage, which the modern technology guarantees, is that the surgical incision is more focused and specific and guarantees positive cosmetic results for the patient after surgery.
Al Mahmeed added that the advanced new technology represents a real advantage for cancer patients; Any reduction in the time between breast surgery and radiotherapy can make a significant difference in people’s recovery and increase their chances of treatment.
