Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that there are “malicious goals” behind plans to plunge the Turkish economy into crisis, and indicated that his country had thwarted attacks on its economy aimed at “bringing” the country and likened the motives of what he described as the attacks to a failed coup attempt in 2016.

Erdogan’s statements come after the Turkish lira suffered a significant decline during the past three years, while Ankara earlier revealed foreign plans that were targeting it, and caused an economic crisis that negatively impacted the local currency.

A plan to hit the Turkish economy

Erdogan said, in a speech he delivered Thursday, July 8, 2021, during his participation in the expanded meeting of the heads of the branches of the Justice and Development Party in the Turkish provinces: “The malicious goal behind the July 15 (2016) coup attempt is the same as behind the plans to plunge our economy into a crisis , as well as the malicious aims that were behind the Gezi Park events and the terrorist acts of the PKK.”

He also added that his government could take additional steps to support the people, by looking at the global path of the epidemic, economic developments and other issues.

Erdogan added, “In order to become among the most powerful countries around the world, we must cross the 2023 bend without trouble, and from here the 2023 elections gain its importance.”

“We have taken measures to counter the attacks targeting our economy, by bringing all our overseas gold into our country and strengthening our foreign exchange reserves,” he added.

Attacks for 8 years

Erdogan stressed that the Justice and Development Party, which he heads, is the party of the Turkish people, and that the people showed their confidence in him by casting their votes for us in every electoral entitlement.

He continued, “Thanks to the strength and support we received from our people, we were able to confront all the attacks that have been going on for 8 years and that targeted the party and the presidency of the republic, which I run.”

He added: “You remember how the Western media used to broadcast continuously without interruption the events of Gezi Park and fabricated lies after another. The events of Gezi Park began under the pretext of preserving the trees, but soon the malicious intentions behind them became apparent, and they began to demand that the Turkish government stop implementing all mega projects “.

Erdogan also stressed that the conspiring parties against Ankara are plotting their machinations outside Turkey’s borders, when they failed to achieve their goals at home, and that his country’s armed forces were able, through their successful operations, to thwart the plots by combating terrorist organizations such as ISIS and PKK / YPG.
