Some teens have found a way they can use soft drinks to fake COVID-19 tests to get a positive test result in order to avoid going to school and staying at home.
The authors of a new study that revealed the matter alerted schools to be careful.
And the British news site, iNews, stated that, as of July 1, clips posted on social media under the hashtag “#fake a Covid examination” had achieved millions of views.
In these clips, young people appear using various drinks to get a quick positive result in Covid-19 tests.
This report and others prompted researchers at the University of Liverpool to study the effects of using soft drinks and artificial sweeteners on changing test results, and this study used 14 soft drinks and 4 artificial sweeteners.
And it concluded that the results of the examination are negative when consuming the four tested sweeteners as well as spring water, but on the contrary, consuming 10 of the 14 soft drinks results in positive or slightly positive results for Covid-19 tests.
The researchers did not discover a clear link between the components of soft drinks and test results.
The researchers said that since March, British schools have required students who do not show symptoms to be tested for Covid-19 twice a week.
A single positive test could lead to isolating an entire classroom at home.
Based on these results, the researchers made a recommendation to conduct the examination in the morning, before eating any food or drinks, and to be under supervision whenever possible.
