After life was hard on them, and forced them to seek refuge, in addition to losing loved ones and difficult living conditions, Syrian refugee students were able to win first places in several Jordanian universities.
Those tragic circumstances, which these refugees took peacefully to reach the first places in their academic achievement, gathered them together with ambition and hope to return to their countries safe and sound and fortified with education after the end of this cloud.
The first on the Yarmouk media
The Syrian student “Abd al-Rahman Adnan Zain al-Abidin” achieved the first place in journalism from the Faculty of Mass Communication at Yarmouk University, with honors and a rate of 96.1%, which no student has achieved since the establishment of the college in 1980.
Abd al-Rahman, who was born in Damascus in 1995 and hails from Daraa, did not expect his sons “Mohammed, Ammar and Ibrahim” to witness his graduation, or to be shared by his wife, who supported him throughout his school years, he told the Jordan News Online newspaper.
Zain al-Abidin fled to Jordan with his family in late 2012, after his father suffered burns, and his brothers Ammar and Muhammad were shot dead by the Syrian regime forces, leaving him alone to his parents.
Zain al-Abidin received a “DAFI” scholarship to teach Syrian students in universities, as he told Jordan News, “I applied for the scholarship the first time in 2015 and I was not contacted, and the second time in 2016 as well, so despair sometimes returned and hope again, until the year 2017. I submitted For the grant, and my mother’s invitations accompanied her, to communicate with me, and I was overwhelmed with joy.”
And Zain al-Abidin indicated that all the circumstances that kept him away from school for five years, and emptied him of his family responsibilities, were an incentive for him and a source of strength in himself.
During his graduation ceremony, he was married by his Jordanian neighbors, along with his Syrian family and friends, explaining that his neighbors, the sons of Jordanian tribes, celebrated his graduation as one of their sons, and carried him in their own cars and toured the city of Jerash in which he resides.
The first to specialize in the Arabic language
The Syrian student, Hanan Khaled Al-Salamat, won the first place in the Arabic language specialization from Irbid National University with a rate of 91.3%, and she was honored by the university president, Dr. Ahmed Al-Khasawneh.
Hanan, who was born in the Syrian governorate of Daraa in 1998, fled to Jordan in 2013, alongside her family. She told Jordan News that her desire to study the Arabic language came from her love for the Holy Qur’an, and we must preserve it, expand it, and teach it to future generations.
Despite her mother’s illness and her complete inability to move, she was able to take care of her mother during the day and do her homework at night, until she succeeded with distinction, as Hanan said.
First on mechanical engineering
Student Diaa al-Mahamid won first place in mechanical engineering at Zarqa University, with a rate of 95.1%. During his interview with “Jordan News,” he indicated that he began his university studies in 2017, immediately after completing the Tawjihi, after receiving an EDU SYRIA grant to teach Syrian students.
Al-Mahamid fled to Jordan in 2013, after losing his father and brother, and went through difficult human conditions. He also chose the mechanical engineering major after thinking and following up on the fields of work of this major, and his subspecialties, in which he found what he wanted, especially that he is a lover of mathematics and physics in general.
Al-Mahamid indicated that he was able to implement his father’s desire to excel in academic achievement, in addition to seeking a scholarship to complete a master’s study, to enhance his expertise and open up more horizons and areas for creativity.
Excellence in Human Medicine

Hezini obtained the Tawjihi certificate in 2015, with a grade point average of 97.6, and obtained a cultural exchange seat for medicine at the University of Jordan, which reduced his university tuition fees, according to Al-Hazini.
Al-Hazaini indicated during his interview with “Jordan News” that the death of his father during the first semester was one of the biggest obstacles he faced, in addition to the costs of university studies and transportation expenses, as he lives in Zarqa Governorate, far from the university’s headquarters in the capital, Amman.
He aspires to complete the specialization, but the financial cost is an obstacle to him, whether inside or outside Jordan.
First on computer engineeringهندسة
The Syrian student Moamen Mowaffaq Al-Ghazouli managed to obtain the first place in the field of Computer and Communications Engineering from Al-Zaytoonah University, with an average of 85.8% and an excellent grade.
Moamen fled to Jordan from Damascus in late 2012, and he stopped two years of high school studies, after arriving in Jordan to secure their basic needs.
Moamen told Jordan News that he did his best to obtain a scholarship that qualifies him for university studies, but all his attempts were unsuccessful, and he was forced to work and study side by side, until he was able to succeed and obtain the first place in computer and communications engineering.
Moamen aspires to complete postgraduate studies in enterprise systems engineering, in addition to delving into the real field of work to be a source of livelihood for him.
