The Israeli media quoted the former official in the “Mossad”, Sima Shine, as saying that the controversy continues over whether it is wise to publicly reveal the seizure of Iran’s secret nuclear archive.
Speaking at a conference for the “Israeli Institute for National Security Studies,” Shine seemed to imply that she was against the public disclosure of the operation carried out by Mossad agents in 2018, according to the Jerusalem Post.
And last June, the former head of the Mossad, Yossi Cohen, revealed his country’s operations against Iran, including access to Iran’s secret nuclear archive.
In an interview with the official Hebrew TV, Cohen talked about the details of access to Iran’s nuclear archive, where the occupation obtained thousands of secret documents through a raid carried out by Mossad agents in 2018.
Shane said, “Was there a need to publish it? Perhaps we could have held on to the information and exposed a little of it over a period of several years.”
She added that if the Mossad had quietly shared the intelligence with counterparts such as the CIA, the British Secret Intelligence Service and the international inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, “the Iranians would not know how much we took from them.”
But she said she knew the “political class wanted to reveal” this in order to help pull the United States out of the nuclear deal.
She noted some of the perennial disagreements between the political class and intelligence professionals, saying, “They each have a different view of how to enhance national security.”
In his interview, Cohen said that planning the process of obtaining the Iranian nuclear archive took two years, while 20 Mossad agents participated in the operation on the ground, and none of them was Israeli, and all of them survived after the end of the operation.
Cohen watched the operation from Tel Aviv, where he first saw the documents appear on the screen after agents infiltrated a warehouse and had to break more than 30 safes.
