After months of anticipation, the features of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics began to become clear, and the decision of the organizing committee came on Thursday, revealing the most important details.

Japanese Olympics Minister Tamayo Marukawa said Thursday that the Tokyo Olympics organizers agreed to hold the games without spectators, in light of the state of emergency to confront the Covid-19 epidemic.

And the organizing committee changed its decision to allow a maximum of 10,000 fans to attend in sports facilities, last month, to announce that the tournament would be held without spectators.

For the first time in history, competitions will be held behind closed doors, with the number of infections with the Corona virus rising.

The Japanese government is facing criticism for the slow vaccination program and its insistence on organizing the Olympics between July 23 and August 8, which is a risk with the influx of tens of thousands of athletes, officials and journalists from around the world.

The Japanese newspaper “Asahi”, the official partner of the Olympics and the second most widely spread national newspaper in the country, called last month to cancel the event, which it described as a “health hazard.”

The newspaper condemned the “selfish nature” of the International Olympic Committee, whose Vice President John Coats announced last week that the Olympic Games would be held even if the state of emergency remained in place in Tokyo, according to AFP. (Sky News Arabia)
