The Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, said that a political solution is the only solution to the Syrian crisis in accordance with UN Resolution 2254 and related international resolutions.

The minister’s statement came during his participation, Monday, in the ministerial meeting on Syria in the Italian capital, Rome.

He stressed the importance of international consensus to stop the humanitarian suffering of the Syrian people, and to reach a solution to the border crossings crisis, to ensure the flow of international aid to those who deserve it, calling for “not to politicize the humanitarian issue in Syria, and not to neglect the humanitarian needs of the Syrian people.”

He added that “the absence of an effective international will to solve the Syrian crisis contributed to the opportunity for some parties to implement expansionist, sectarian and demographic projects aimed at changing Syria’s identity, and foreshadowing the prolonged Syrian crisis and its regional and international effects.”

At the conclusion of his speech, he stressed the importance of uniting efforts to resume the negotiating process, supporting the efforts of the United Nations and the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in this regard, and providing all aspects of support required for the success of his mission.
