Today, Tuesday, the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature launched the first lizard tracking device in the Kingdom, in the Viva Nature Reserve, as part of the endangered lizard protection program that the society has been implementing since 2014.
The researcher of animal studies at the Biodiversity Monitoring Center, Engineer Omar Abed, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra), that the launch of the tracking device aims to determine the range of movement of the lizard and its feeding areas within the reserve, during different seasons, which directly contribute to the effectiveness of protection plans. For his part, Director of the Fifa Nature Reserve, Ibrahim Al-Mahasneh, told (Petra) that the lizard is one of the endangered animals at the global level (Vulnerable), due to the continuous decline in its global population as a result of its exposure to overfishing, and the presence of the lizard in the Fifa Reserve Nature is one of the criteria achieved in the Ramsar Convention for the Protection of Threatened Species within the Reserve, as one of the conditions of the Convention is the presence of a threatened species in the reserve.
