Last Saturday, His Majesty King Abdullah II visited the shrines of the Companions in the southern shrine, and prayed at the Jaafar bin Abi Talib Mosque, emphasizing the importance of the religious and historical shrines of the Companions, as well as the Hashemite concern for Islamic landmarks, and the great role of His Majesty in preserving Islamic sanctities.

The shrines in the southern shrine include the tombs of the companions Zaid bin Haritha, Jaafar bin Abi Talib and Abdullah bin Rawahah, may God be pleased with them, who were martyred in the Battle of Mu’tah, which is considered one of the most important and greatest invasions that took place between Muslims and the Romans in the eighth year of migration.

The royal visit to the shrines brought the religious tourism sector back to the fore, especially since Jordan includes the relics of the prophets and their followers, the shrines of the Companions, the Baptism of Jesus Christ, in addition to the Jordan Valley, Mount Nebo, and historical palaces and castles.

Former Minister of Awqaf Wael Arabiyat said that the visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II to Islamic archaeological sites is evidence of His Majesty’s great interest in the history of the Arab and Islamic nation, and its extension to this date, and the restoration of its legitimacy from this date, for which the companions sacrificed with the Messenger of God – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. He added, during his speech to the Jordan News Online newspaper, that these visits confirm the importance of this country, which embraced the shrines and shrines of the Companions – may God be pleased with them – and the royal interest in these shrines.

He also explained that the presence of the tombs of the Companions confirms the importance of Jordan, as a religious tourist area, and that the opportunity is ripe today for the idea of ​​religious tourism in Jordan through the shrines of the Companions and considering Jordan as a historical museum.

He stressed that the maintenance of the shrines of the Companions cost over a decade nearly a billion dinars, between restoration and attention, and the establishment of endowments around them.

It is worth mentioning that His Majesty the King inaugurated the Great Islamic Complex in the southern shrine in 1999, which includes a mosque with an area of ​​1,500 square meters, in addition to the shrines of Jaafar bin Abi Talib and Zaid bin Haritha.

In 2012, under royal directives, a comprehensive maintenance work was carried out for the mosque and its provision with all needs.

Arabiyat reminded of the Hashemite guardianship of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is carried out through the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, and receives more than a thousand employees from it, noting that the maintenance of Al-Aqsa Mosque is carried out through the Hashemite guardianship, and many of the projects it undertakes, such as the mosaic dome, the Marwani Mosque project, and the Al-Marwani Mosque project. Extinguishing the fire, and a lot of projects that were completed in the last period and were under the supervision of the Hashemite guardianship.

After His Majesty’s visit to the shrines of the Companions, the Council of Ministers approved, in its session held on Sunday, a draft law for the development of lands adjacent to the bath, which enhances its importance to be the most important global religious tourism destination.

Under the draft law, a non-profit charitable foundation will be established to develop the lands adjacent to the baptism site.

In turn, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Nayef Al-Fayez, stated during previous press statements, following His Majesty’s visit to the shrines of the Companions in the southern shrine in the Karak governorate, that the shrines of the prophets and companions in the Kingdom receive the attention and care of His Majesty, and his great concern because they belong to all Muslims.

The minister pointed out that this site has a special place among Muslims, as it includes the shrines of three companions, may God be pleased with them, who were martyred in the battle of Muta.

He explained that the ministry is working tirelessly to continue rehabilitating and improving religious sites in Jordan in cooperation with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, especially in preparation for the opening of the tourism sectors after they were closed due to the “Corona” pandemic.

Al-Fayez indicated that His Majesty the King, the scion of the Hashemite family, focuses on the need to maintain and maintain the shrines constantly to suit the sanctity of these places and their visitors, pointing out that the Ministry, in turn, places this matter at the top of its priorities.
