An American study institute said, on Monday, that the Saudi authorities had issued a death sentence for the former commander of the joint forces fighting in Yemen, Prince Fahd bin Turki bin Abdulaziz.
The Washington Institute for Gulf Studies stated that a Saudi military court had issued a death sentence for Prince Fahd, King Salman’s nephew, on charges of “treason” and an attempted coup to isolate King Salman and his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
According to the institute, the source who leaked the information to him is a prince close to Prince Fahd bin Turki.
And last September, the Saudi monarch issued a surprising decree dismissing Prince Fahd bin Turki, and his son, the deputy governor of the Al-Jawf region, Abdulaziz bin Turki.
There were many rumors that the authorities arrested the prince and his son, who was accused of corruption cases.
The institute obtained dozens of secret Saudi documents detailing the transfer of more than 100 residential plots in Riyadh to Fahd bin Turki’s four sons.
Leaked documents from the Saudi Ministry of Justice indicate that nearly a square kilometer of land was granted to Ibn Turki’s four sons in 2014 during the reign of their maternal grandfather, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.
Prince Fahd bin Turki’s wife is Princess Abeer bint King Abdullah, who the institute said is residing in Scotland in self-imposed exile.
The institute stated that Abeer controls large sums of money, and that the death sentence against her husband is an attempt to recover the money.
The Washington Institute for Gulf Studies said that after King Abdullah’s death, nearly all of his sons and daughters were either arrested or their fortunes taken away in what the Saudi government describes as an anti-corruption purge.
He added that the United States is assisting the Saudi Ministry of Defense in modernizing its structures, including military trials.
