The Iraqi ambassador to Jordan, Haider Al-Adari, held a memorial service for Captain Ahmed Radi, on the first anniversary of his death, Thursday evening, at the Royal Hotel in Amman.
During the memorial ceremony, in which the Qatari ambassador to Amman, Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, and a number of sports and cultural figures participated, Al-Adari recalled the stages of the history of the human and sports deceased.
Al-Adari said that the late gathered Iraqis in stadiums and in front of television screens, and here he is gathering us today to commemorate the one-year anniversary of his death, which shocked the Iraqis and many Arab brothers.

The Iraqi ambassador in the Kingdom described this gathering as gratitude “to each in his position and address to Ahmed Radi, who bore the name of Iraq in Arab and international sports forums and remained honest and loyal to his homeland and his humanitarian message until his death.”
He pointed out that Ahmed Radi’s historic goal against Belgium in the 1986 World Cup was a milestone in his football history, in which no Iraqi football player has participated in it so far, which made his popularity born with every generation.
The Iraqi football legend passed away at the age of 56, as a result of being infected with the Corona virus. Radi won the Gulf Cup with his country in 1984 and 1988, when he won the award for the best player in the Asian continent.
He continued his brilliance with the first team in the eighties and nineties, when he led him to the World Cup Finals Mexico 1986, the only one in which the Iraqi team participated.
He scored the only goal for his country in the World Cup against Belgium, and also won the Gulf Cup in 1984 and 1988 when he won the award for the best player in the Asian continent. In the third millennium, Ahmed Radi entered the field of politics, becoming a member of the Iraqi Parliament and a member of the Council’s Youth and Sports Committee.
