A few days ago, Italian archaeologists made a tomography scan of an Egyptian mummy belonging to the ancient priest Ankh-yif in Khonsu.
Reuters reported that the mummy was prepared before being transferred from the Bergamo Municipal Archaeological Museum to the Milan Hospital Clinic, according to the required modern standards. And the agency indicated – in a funny way – that “in this way, ancient Egypt became familiar with modern medical technologies (in Italy)!”
Italian researchers hope that analyzing the CT scan results will help determine life and customs in the time of ancient Egypt, 3,000 years ago, and thus reconstruct a picture of the life and death of an ancient Egyptian priest, and understand the materials that were used in his mummification.
The head of the research project, Sabina Malgora, said:
The scientist explained that knowledge of past illnesses is also valuable. She added, “Studying ancient diseases and wounds is important for modern medical research… We can study cancer or atherosclerosis in the past, which would benefit modern studies.”
