The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lawyer Abdel Moneim Al-Awdat, affirmed the Council’s keenness to support the demands of the Journalists Syndicate and the press and media institutions, stressing that the Council will invite the Syndicate and editors-in-chief to a meeting soon in the House of Representatives in the presence of the relevant government agencies in order to take quick steps to support paper newspapers.
Al-Awdat’s talk came during his visit today, Monday to the headquarters of the Syndicate of Journalists, where he met the acting captain, Yanal Al-Barmawi, in the presence of the council members and fellow editors-in-chief. National, Media and Parliamentary Culture Dr. Omar Al-Zyoud, and Representative Jaafar Al-Rababah.
Al-Awdat praised the role of the national media, which carries the message and discourse of the Jordanian state, and which is an essential element in standing up to all those who are tempted to tamper with the security and stability of Jordan, and said, “Our country is impenetrable, able to withstand its institutions and the wisdom of His Majesty the King in the middle of an inflamed region, and we will enter the bicentenary.” From the age of this country with strength, and with clear goals.”
He said that protecting media and press institutions is a national duty, and that the Journalists Syndicate will remain an impregnable fortress of the nation, stressing that the House of Representatives feels the suffering of the press and media community, and that there will be a meeting soon in the House of Representatives, bringing together the union, the administrations of newspapers and related institutions, To resolve the outstanding issues of the press and media institutions, in a sustainable manner, and take applicable measures
Al-Awdat stressed that the council is keen to communicate with the press body, and it was the first meeting with the Syndicate Council at the beginning of this year, and the Parliamentary National Steering, Media and Culture Committee met with the Syndicate Council and a number of newspaper representatives to search for solutions to confront the crisis of paper newspapers, just as the Council, through the Legal Committee, was keen To listen and take into account the opinion of the union during the discussion of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Law, and this meeting today is a continuation of what we pledged to support media freedoms and stand by our national media institutions
For his part, Al-Barmawi said that the Syndicate and the House of Representatives are working in partnership to amend legislation that limits public freedoms and negatively affects journalistic and media work, praising the cooperation of the Speaker of Parliament and the House’s recent decision regarding the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Law, especially the deletion of the article criminalizing the dissemination of news. false allegations of corruption.
He demanded the translation of press demands in partnership with the House of Representatives, to restore the brilliance of the Jordanian media, reduce the decline in global indicators, and support press and media institutions, especially paper newspapers that suffer from difficult financial crises, the Radio and Television Corporation and the Jordan News Agency, as these institutions are a reference for information The National Archives of the Jordanian State.
Al-Barmawi presented a number of demands that will be submitted in a memorandum to the House of Representatives, foremost of which is strengthening press freedoms, preventing journalists from being imprisoned, removing restrictions that impede the work of journalists, emphasizing disciplined, professional and objective freedoms, reviewing negative and restrictive legislation on freedoms and the need to expedite the passage of the law on the right to obtain information, and work Establishing a fund to support the media, stopping the restructuring procedures in the Radio and Television Corporation against journalists, and the necessity of supporting official media institutions.
