The Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (legal and administrative) MP Dr. Muhammad Al-Hilalat said that his talk about the date of the municipal elections comes within the framework of reading the time periods leading up to the elections.

Al-Hilalat stressed that this decision is within the powers of the executive authority represented by the Council of Ministers and the Independent Election Commission, which determines the date of the elections after the government decides to hold them.

Al-Hilalat indicated that the committee will start discussing the municipalities and decentralization bill for 2021 during the next parliamentary session, whether it is an exceptional or a regular session, stressing that the committee is currently working on holding discussion sessions and brainstorming about the bill, which started last week and under the auspices of the Speaker of the Council, Lawyer Abdel Moneim. Al-Awdat held its first sessions with heads of provincial councils, representatives of the women’s sector in the councils and former mayors, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Krishan.
