MP Abdulsalam Al-Thiabat said that Energy Minister Hala Zawati informed the Energy Committee that the government charges a tax on 90 tanks of 7.8 dinars, indicating that the rate of this tax is the highest in the world.
Thiabat added that he inquired from the minister about the reason for imposing this tax at such a high rate, and the answer was that it is a fiscal state policy, stressing that this tax is illogical, as it is considered higher than the price of a tank of gasoline after being imported from abroad.
He said that the Ministry of Energy needs to be restructured, due to the existence of files shrouded in ambiguity, such as generation, the pricing of oil derivatives and the pricing of electricity, noting: “There is a twist and turn around these files, so that no one knows what is going on.”
He stressed that he would be a fierce enemy to the government and the ministry if it raised electricity prices on citizens, and the deputies would not allow that, so it is unreasonable for a state – as the minister said – to export electricity and raise it to citizens.
